Social Media

Hey folks! Between mentioning this on Twitter and on Discord I think most people who are interested in social media will have already seen this, but it’s worth repeating here just in case.

Going forward, The Space Above Us will no longer be updating the official Twitter account. There are lots of reasons for this that aren’t really worth getting into, but a big part of it is a believe that the internet was better when personal websites were more of a thing. I don’t have any illusions that me focusing more on the TSAU website is going to make a big difference there, but if I’m not doing it I can’t expect others to do it. If you haven’t already, I recommend getting yourself an RSS client that you like and subscribe to this Updates feed so you can automatically be kept up to date.

But that said, I can’t ignore the fact that social media is pretty convenient for keeping up with a lot of content creators, and for spreading ideas quickly. So I have created a Bluesky account over at https://bsky.app/profile/thespaceabove.us. I was a little iffy on this transition, but then I found a tool that ingested my Twitter data archive and automatically posted all the old tweets to Bluesky, even keeping the correct date. So stepping away from Twitter doesn’t mean I’m stepping away from eight years of content.

It does mean I’m stepping away from 1000 users, some of whom have already expressed disappointment in the decision. I totally get it, and I do apologize for the hassle. But hopefully Bluesky can be a nice place to interact before it too inevitably starts to decline. Or is that getting ahead of ourselves?

Anyway, just wanted to let folks know. If anyone has any questions about RSS, including what it is, why it’s good, or even a little tech support, feel free to contact me. Info’s on the “About” page.
